Ensign Sailplane Hangars
Stanton Sport Aviation is an official dealer for Southern California based Ensign Portable Hangars. Stanton Airfield, being centrally located in the Midwest USA, will allow the Ensign Hangars to be displayed and demonstrated to more of the Soaring community, particularly those East of the Mississippi. Stanton Airfield is about a 1-hour drive south of the Minneapolis St. Paul International airport (MSP).
In addition, Stanton Airfield has constructed in 2005, a pair of the “Northern Edition” version of the Ensign 15-meter Sailplane Hangars. The Northern Edition is designed for a 42 pound per sq-ft. snow-load vs the 20 pound snow-load in the basic model. Also, the Ensign Hangars at Stanton are built with a complete foundation and slab system, both designed for Northern Climate conditions.
Both the Standard and Northern Edition versions are design for 90- mph wind conditions, required in most localities. The Standard Edition Kit is $9400, and the Northern Edition is $10,400. Shipping is at cost from Hemet California and runs generally between $1000 - $1500 for up to 2 kits (2 kits ship for the same cost as one) and is paid direct to the shipper. The standard kits takes about 100 hours to assemble, or 5 good days with just 2 people or twice that if a slab is utilized. The finished cost for the Northern Edition version was under $12,000 each at Stanton including the excavation, slab, permit fees, and local taxes. This is significantly less than a box hangar, plus with Ensign Hangars you get the convenience of easy access.
As an Ensign Dealership, we can assist you by sharing with you the planning, approval, construction, and ownership aspects of this high quality Kit-hangar. The steps you may need to take to add this type hangar at your gliderport can be a bit intimidating, but the effort is worth it, as you will have a great All-Steel building that will last a long time and provide a secure and safe storage for your glider.
One of the key aspects of the Ensign Hangar, is the ability to add more fairly easily as your needs grow at the gliderport. This is one reason it was selected at Stanton, and Large Sailplane-only hangars are very expensive and most times require gliders to be shuffled about, leading to hangar rash and less total flying! It has been proven that those with Ensign Hangars fly more because they are RIGGED and READY.
Please contact Tom Rent at Stanton Airfield to learn more about this hangar and to set up a demonstration if desired.
